DISTRICT 33S EYEMOBILE |
 |
MISSION STATEMENT
Arthur Westgate Committee Chair
The purchase of the first Eyemobile and the formation of the Eyemobile Committee for District 33-S were in 1975. The first Eyemobile was an old camper converted into a very viable screening unit. This was all accomplished under the watchful eye of then District Governor Joseph (Bucky) Mello. The goal was to provide quality screening with the very best equipment they could afford at that time.
Today the Eyemobile Committee is still committed to providing quality and efficient screening through the Lions Clubs in the District. It is the Committees' goal to reach out to all the Lion Clubs in the District this year to encourage them all to use the Eyemobile at least once. The Committee will set dates for training on screening equipment and driving tests and instructions on the Eyemobile's use and coordinate them with the Clubs for the best possible participation. Ultimately our continuing goal is to provide the Lion Clubs in District 33-S with the best state of the art equipment to enhance their work throughout the District. The committee will also be looking at setting up our own web page so more information can be instantly available to those who need it.
This Fall and Winter we plan on closing the eves and insulating the Garage where the Eyemobile is kept. This will all be done prior to the installation of a propane-operated heater for the Garage so to maintain a suitable heat level for the proper preservation of the Eyemobile and the technical equipment.
Corporate sponsorship will be given a very close look again and hopefully we can set those wheels in motion this year. Sponsorship from pharmaceutical and health orientated companies will be targeted to enhance our ability to provide state of the art equipment and ease the burden of replacement cost when the time comes.
Our current Eyemobile is a 1999 Winnabago Class A camper built to the Committees specifications. In it we have installed the following state of the art equipment:
- A hearing booth purchased and installed by the Hearing Foundation Committee of
District 33-S.
- A Nurse's work station where they would do screening for blood pressure and diabetes
problems.
- Two Titmus machine tables for the testing of eye acuity.
- A new state of the art Rechiert Tonometer for testing for glaucoma.
- Two air conditioners, each with it's own thermostat.
The Eyemobile is a very impressive unit, one the committee can be proud of in keeping with the commitment of providing the clubs in the district with the very best in state of the art equipment.
