Monthly Message from your District Governor

To My Friends in Lionism

How do I say Thank You to each and every Lion in our Superior District for making this a year that Rachelle and I will never forget.  I would also like to thank CST Pat Salvas, and Larry, for the countless hours she has put in, doing visitations and sending out notices and providing information to all lions in our District.

We have tried many new things this year, some of which were great successes, such as the e-mail newsletter, a Mid Winter Conference that was unbelievable, and the creation of the Hoyle Award.  But we also had some things that didn’t quite make it.  You don’t know unless you try!  We have had some real highs and some real low points to our year, but the Lions in District 33-S have hung in there with us and given us the boost that made us came out on top of the Mountain.

Once again on behalf of Rachelle and Myself, I say Thank You, Never forget those less fortunate than ourselves, that we touch each day by brightening their lives if only for a moment.  Remember they will never forget that moment of love you give them and they will never forget you Lions.

Your friend in Lionism

Donald M Hebert

August 29th   Cabinet Advisory Meeting

The first Cabinet Advisory Meeting of the new year will be held on August 29th at the Weary Travelers Club in Bourne, which is a located about 1 ½ miles from the Bourne Bridge.  This is the first time in many years that a cabinet advisory meeting will be held on the Cape and promises to be a memorable event.  Diane McCue, representing the host Bourne Lions Club, promises to make it a fun, informative, and reasonably priced event.   Other advisory meetings are planned for Taunton (Holy Ghost Hall), Raynham, and Lakeville.  The various locations are in keeping with our District Governor’s Elect’s philosophy that no matter whether we are the largest or smallest club and no matter whether we are located centrally within the district or in the farthest corners of the district, we are united as one - members of District 33S.

A little something to chuckle about!

RETARDED GRANDPARENTS ( this was actually reported by a teacher)

After Christmas, a teacher asked her young pupils how they spent their holiday away from school. One child wrote the following:

We always used to spend the holidays with Grandma and Grandpa.  They used to live in a big brick house but Grandpa got retarded and they moved to Arizona.  Now they live in a tin box and have rocks painted  green to look like grass. They ride around on their bicycles and wear name tags because they don't know who they are anymore.  They go to a building called a wrecked center, but they must have got it fixed because it is all okay now, and do exercises there, but they don't do them very well.  There is a swimming pool too, but in it, they all jump  up and down with hats on.  At their gate, there is a doll house with a  little old man sitting in it.  He watches all day so nobody can escape.  Sometimes they sneak out.  They go cruising in their golf carts.  Nobody there cooks, they just eat out.  And, they eat the same thing every night---early birds.  Some of the people can't get out past the man in  the doll house. The ones who do get out, bring food back to the wrecked  center and call it pot luck. My Grandma says that Grandpa worked all his  life to earn his retardment and says I should work hard so I can be  retarded someday too.  When I earn my retardment, I want to be the man  in the doll house.  Then I will let people out so they can visit their  grandchildren.
