Monthly Message from your District Governor

Hello to all the Lions AND Leos in District 33"S

I have never seen a year go by so fast.  Joan and I wish to thank all of the Lions and Leos in District 33'S for the pleasure of working with you in this Lionistic year 2005/2006.  As you know we all started together a long time ago and now it is time to turn over the district to a new governor. We wish to thank our Region and zone chairpersons and all of our cabinet members and especially all of the lions in the district for everything they have done this year.  You have all done an exceptional job this year and I hope you continue to support your district and your communities in the years to come.  I congratulate all of the clubs for bringing in new members and hope that you all  will continue to increase our membership. It is my wish and hope that we as lions in District 33's will come to Boston
to experience the greatest convention of all times.  See you all there to thank you personally.  I also would like to on behalf of Joan and myself send support and best wishes to our in coming governor DGE Skip Becotte and VDGE Joe Rizzo, lets get behind them and give them our best.  Finally a very special thanks to Barbara Otto for the miracle of this great E-Mail News Letter.

NOT ABOVE YOU NOT BENEATH YOU BUT WITH YOU
God Bless DG George Hart and Lion Joan

It's Official      "CRUNCH TIME"

All of the TEAM BOSTON members want to extend a heart felt thanks to all of the Lions of Multiple District 33 for your efforts in coming together to create a Volunteer Army not seen in these parts since the last revolution.

Like the Minutemen before us, we have heeded the call.  We have taken vacation time, skipped school, stolen time from our busy day so that our guests will be amazed what the Lions of Massachusetts can accomplish in such a short time.

Led by PID Charles “Chuck” Kostro, who has given us so much, we have rallied to fill the breach created when Hurricane Katrina destroyed New Orleans.  In the short time we had to prepare and execute “Mission Possible”, Chuck has given up any semblance of a normal life.  He has devoted untold hours and efforts to bring us to “CRUNCH TIME”.

It is now up to the rest of us to follow Chuck’s example, to make this a lasting memory, and to come to the aid of your fellow Lions.  Be a Paul Revere, and get the word out that now is when we need the assistance of every Lion. If you’re at the Boston Convention and Exhibition Center (BCEC) stop by at Command Central, room 053 lower level and see if there are any last minute needs that have to be staffed.

Sergeants-At-Arms Information

PDG John Pettis is in need for Sergeants-At-Arms for then convention center for the Plenary Sessions and during the registration and voting times.

Parade Information

PDG Lee Szagorski would like anyone that wants to help at the start of the parade route at the Hynes auditorium on Saturday 7:00 am.  The first group in the parade will be assembling at 8:00 am and the last at 10:30 am.  The Massachusetts Lions are the last group in the parade.  We expect to kick off between 12:00-1:30 pm.

If you are at the convention on Friday June 30th there is a volunteer meeting at 7:00 pm in room 052A in the BCEC.  If you are unable to attend, no problem, we’ll see you on Saturday at the Hynes Convention Center staging area at 7:00 am.  The staging area surrounds the Prudential Building.

Shuttle buses are available from the hotels, and will take you to the drop off point.  Bus drop-off from the hotels is on Huntington Ave, near the Christian Science Plaza.  A volunteer sign-in tent will be on Boylston Street, which is in front of the Prudential.  You are asked to report to the tent at 7:00 am on July 1st where you will receive your assignment, a volunteer T-shirt, and a Parade Marshall Hat.  You will also meet your team captain at this time.

Parking at regular prices is available at the underground garage at the Commons or Prudential.  These run over $20 for 8 hours.  There is $10 daily parking lot near the Convention Center (BCEC) where you could catch one of the shuttle buses.  For those of you who will only be there for parade day, we suggest taking public transportation.

HAVE FUN!!

Easton Lions Club

Easton Lions Can” Is The Motto For Upcoming International Convention

The 89th International Lions Club Convention will be held at the Boston Convention and Exposition Center (BCEC) from June 30th through July 4th.  The Easton Lions Club will Be collecting refundable bottles and cans in order to make a donation to the Massachusetts Eye Research Fund. It is estimated that there will be as many as 17,000 Lions from 190 counties attending the Convention.  Worldwide there are 45,000 Lions Clubs with a membership of approximately 1.3 million Lions.

All proceeds from this endeavor, which are estimated to be $10,000, will be donated to the Massachusetts Eye Research Fund on behalf of Easton Lions.  The history of the International Lions and Eye Research goes back to 1925 when Helen Keller addressed the Lions International Convention in Cedar Point, Ohio, USA. She challenged Lions to become "knights of the blind in the crusade against darkness."  From that time, Lions Clubs have been actively involved in service to the blind and visually impaired.
