DISTRICT GOVERNOR JOE’S
JANUARY MESSAGE
Happy New Year to all! I hope you have had a very happy and joyous Christmas and wish to extend my best wishes for the New Year.
Attending the District 33-S Christmas party for our very special children and their families on December 8th began the Christmas season for me as I witnessed the Lions reaching out to give and care for others. I extend my sincere appreciation to Debbie Mascuilli and all of the Lions who helped in providing such a joyful celebration for our children. Santa was very well received by the children and the adults too.
Cynthia and I also had another very special event on
December 12th when we attended the Fall River Lions luncheon for 377
people comprised of special children, their parents, and teachers from the
There were many district Lions events during the Christmas season that were community-based, such as “Santa Claus Comes to Town”, “Breakfast with Santa”, meals for the Seniors, and food baskets for those in need. As I attended the various events during the month of December, I thought of the honor we have in being a Lion.
As we begin a new calendar year, we note that we are almost half-way through the Lions year. At this time I want to thank you for the work you have done in support District 33-S initiatives – Walk-A-Long, Carnation Days, Pennies for Sight, the Peace Poster Contest, Youth Speech Contest, troop donations, and eyeglass donations for the Sri Lanka Project, and our mid winter conference.
Looking forward, there will be continued emphasis on eye research through Mass Lions Eye Research donations and Campaign Sight First II which addresses preventable blindness. The Lions of District 33-S have never failed to meet the challenge and it is a challenge that offers the gift of sight for millions. Similarly, our gift of sight through eyeglass collections through the Sri Lanka project is targeted for a May completion date as well as completing a joint project for eyeglasses to Peru with Rotary International.
It is also a time for each club to reflect upon what has been done thus far and to review its plans for the remainder of the year.
· Do these plans indicate this year’s theme, “Challenge to Change?”
· Do these plans need to be revised before proceeding to put them into action?
· Are there new ideas that we want to add to or substitute in our plans?
· Have we met the goal of adding one new member to our club?
· Are we making our meetings interesting for our members through:
- motivating programs?
- timely topics?
- reasonable meeting time limits?
· Are our members actively participating in fund raisers?
· Are our actions/activities relevant to the community?
· Are we informing others of what Lions do and how we are contribute to the community?
As we embark upon this New Year, let us go forward with initiatives that meet community needs, needs that address those less fortunate than ourselves and meet our “Challenge to Change”!
Yours in Lionism,
Joe Rizzo
District Governor
INTERESTING NEWS FOR THE DISTRICT

DISTRICT 33S WEB SIGHT
Lions District 33S (
Our Web
page is now up and running with a new host and plenty (REALLY PLENTY) of
space. This is a busy time of year but I am finding time to get information up
on the page and to make some improvements to the page. We
really need to have district committee chairs send some information to replace
the pages with something other than empty pages. There are several committees
that have nothing posted on their pages, and several with old obsolete
information. Obsolete information in many cases is better than no
information at all. Several pages look
the one below.

HELPING ALEX
Hi, I am Alex Dalpe
Alex was born on July 8, 2005 to Bill and Beth Dalpe of Rehoboth. At four months of age Alex was diagnosed with Dravet Syndrome (severe Myoclonic Epilepsy in Infancy).
A form of Epilepsy so rare that fewer than 500 cases world wide are known to exist. There is no known cure for Dravet Syndrome and it is nearly impossible to control with conventional seizure medications. For additional information please review website http://idea-league.org/dravet.html. Due to the tremendous effects of Alex’s condition the Rehoboth Lions are establishing a fund raising raffle in order to help alleviate the financial burden for Alex’s family. We are enlisting the help of any organization that would like to help us sell raffle tickets. All proceeds will help defray current and future expenses for Alex.
The following prizes will be raffled off on Rehoboth Public Access Channel 9 live on April 11, 2008 at 7p.m.
One week for two at a Florida Condo, on beach, includes round trip air fare.
