Monthly Message from your District Governor

To the lions of District 33S

Hello to all of the lions in District 33'S.

The holidays have come and gone and I hope you all had a great time.  We must now look forward to a new year and as there is still work to be done.  Please try to attend the business meeting at the Mid-Winter.  I guarantee you will be impressed with our guest speaker, Dr. Donald Pottle from Schepens Eye Institute and meet International Director Richard Chaffin and lion Debbie.  International Director Richard is going to join us for the belly flop contest, so let’s encourage him to make a big wave.  Please come to the DISTRICT 33-S MID WINTER and LEARN SOMETHING NEW while you HAVE FUN.  Thanks to all the clubs for doing a great job.  It has been a pleasure to visit the clubs, CST Joe and I have already visited half of the clubs this year.  Above all don't forget about the State Convention and the International Convention the end of June.

Yours in Lionism,

DG George Hart.

DISTRICT 33S

THANK YOU!  THANK YOU!  THANK YOU!

OPERATION SANTA SHOE BOX

A Touch of Home for Our Troops

The success of the Operation Santa Collection effort and items donated at the Cabinet Advisory Meeting on November 27th was truly a demonstration of the lions caring and public support for our troops overseas.  Most of all the items donated will be sent to troops overseas in shoeboxes: a small portion is being sent to personnel assigned to forward operating bases (FOBs) in Iraq.

We have been in contact with a Field Artillery Brigade in Iraq that has units detached at FOBs.  The conditions at FOBs are quite different than at camp locations.  Forward operating bases are less safe or secure; there is a general lack of creature comforts, and there are no base exchanges or commissaries.  A supply truck usually arrives once a week.  If they are out of items, soldiers write a request for the item and it will be delivered the next week.

We have been assured that any care packages sent to the unit will be forward to these detached locations.  All the unit asks is that we mark in large letters on the boxes sent – MASS LIONS DISTRICT 33S - so that they may be separated for special distribution.

We are asking each club to consider donating one box of items requested for soldiers.    If your club decides to undertake this project, please send the items to:

                                          Captain Rodney McCutcheon

                                          18 FA BDE

                                          OIF 05-07

                                          Camp Speicher

                                          APO, AE 09396

Thank you for your thoughts and support of our troops.

Enid Silva, President Greater Dartmouth Lions Club

Barbara Otto, President Berkley Lions Club

CST Joe Rizzo, Hanover Lions Club

---

President Enid Silva from the Greater Dartmouth Lions Club would like to thank all the Lions in District 33S for their time, donations and great spirit at the November 27th Advisory Meeting in Raynham.  The items that were collected at the Advisory Meeting have already gone out to the boys and girls in Iraq and Afganistan, thanks to some wonderful Lion Elves that sorted and collated the items for her..  The cost of that shipment was $496.00.  The donations from the Berkley Lions Club, the Merchants, and the Kiwanas Clubs plus the extra monies we collected for postage at the advisory meeting ($170.00) made that one fly with enough left over for the next shipment to follow along quickly.

Remember, the best part of this operation is that it goes on quietly all Year.

“We will continue Operation Shoebox until the last one comes home”

AT&T Calling Cards

The Berkley Lions Club purchased and donated $200.00 for AT&T Calling Cards for our troops and with CST Joe Rizzo’s help the USO MATCHED our donation and has sent out an additional $200.00 in AT&T Calling Cards for Captain Rodney McCutcheon to disburse among the FOB units in Iraq.

That’s $400.00 for the little town of Berkley.
