Monthly Message from your District Governor

Hello everyone and welcome to the second half surge.

I trust you all survived the mid winter convention.  Sincerer thank you to all the clubs who submitted there fist half donations.  Thanks to all of you we raised over 100,000 thousand dollars for eye research alone in our first six months…GREAT JOB   To those clubs who have not yet submitted their donations we are looking forward to hearing from you before the state convention.

Those of you who were at the mid winter banquet heard me announce project 54/54.  In our continuing efforts to support our troops we are once again returning to operation shoe box.  We need 54 shoe boxes of items (see attached list below) in 54 days starting Feb 1st.  Colonel Sellars of the Army National Guard welcomed the importance of this project to our troops in Iraq and Afghanistan.  So please let’s once again put District 33S in the forefront of this endeavor.  The date and location for project 54/54 drop off will be

e mailed shortly once it’s finalized, so start collecting now for our boys and girls!

As always, VDG Joe Rizzo, CST/PDG Don Hebert, and I wish to thank you for all your hard work in helping those less fortunate.  We are looking forward to our remaining visitations and meeting with all of you the second half of this lionistic year.

Yours in Lionism

SPRING BOWLING TOURNAMENT

The South Attleboro Lions Club is once again sponsoring the annual District 33S Spring Bowling Tournament.  It will be held at 1:00 pm on March 18, 2007 at the Taunton Ten Pin Lanes, Rte 44, Taunton, MA.  We invite you to come join us for a fun filled afternoon of bowling, prizes, and surprises.  As in years past, free pizza and soft drinks will follow the tournament.  The proceeds from this year’s tournament will again be donated to a District 33S charity of your choice.  At last years tournament, the winning team was the Hyde Park Lions Club from District K, and the last place team was he Norton Community Lions Club.  Enter a team or two or more, and try to unseat last year’s winners, who will be defending their trophies.  In all the years since the tournament’s inception, the first place trophy had never before left our District; in the spirit of competition, let’s return the trophy to District 33S.

An application along with a copy of this letter is being sent to all the clubs.  If you have any questions, please call Lion Andy Charpentier at 401-356-4742 or 401-225-1794, or Zone Chairman Mike Olson at 508-243-5520.  Please reserve early, as we are limited to twenty-four teams this year.

Lion Andy Charpentier, Co-Chairman

SOUTH ATTLEBORO VILLAGE LIONS NEW YORK TRIP

Bus trip to New York will be on Saturday, April 28th.  Cost is $35 per person and must be paid in full to guarantee reservation.  Bus will leave So. Attleboro at 6 am and returns at approximately 10:30 pm.  Seats are on first come/first serve basis.  Due to other events taking place on this same date, such as the State Convention, among other, if all seats have not been reserved by March 31st the trip will be cancelled and all deposits paid will be returned.  We will be able to get our deposit back from Conway by canceling by that date.  This is necessary, as the price cannot be held at $35 per person unless all 49 seats on the bus are filled.  Please contact Pat Bonneau @ 508-761-7709 as soon as possible if interested.  Other than refunds being given for the trip cancellation, no individual cancellations will be refunded unless those seats can be resold.  Unfortunately, this is necessary due to several cancellations being made at the last minute for the past two trips leaving us short.  So....if you are interested reserve your seats, bring your family and friends, and let's have a fun trip to New York.

Message from your International President Jimmy Ross

Dear Club Officer, A year of opportunity for your club

Last year was an exciting year, especially for our service in Campaign SightFirst II (CSFII). When I think of what lies ahead for Lions in 2007, all I see is opportunity and countless ways our service will touch lives.

This January, as we look to the New Year, one full of possibility, I ask for your personal support for CSFII.  Saving sight is personal to Lions, and we have no better way to do it than through SightFirst.  It is how we, as individuals and as an organization, have saved or restored the sight of tens of millions of people. "We serve" through our SightFirst program.

SightFirst is Lions' calling card. I have seen firsthand the value and gratitude people feel when they receive the gift of sight. Among our many contributions and services to the world, SightFirst is the one that makes the largest impact.

We enter 2007 with a healthy to-do list for CSFII.  We have raised more than US $60 million for CSFII to continue our SightFirst program, but we need to raise another US $90 million to reach our minimum goal of US $150 million and save the sight of 37 million people.

To keep our focus on CSFII, I want to suggest we use our collective Lion Power for an ambitious goal. I challenge you to join me in the pursuit of more than US $90 million raised by our 90th Anniversary at the International Convention, in Chicago (USA), this July.

We reached many milestones in our first year of fund raising for CSFII, but reaching more than US $90 million by our 90th anniversary will be a true homecoming for our association. Rallying all Lions around this target will put us in a prime position to soar past our minimum goal and even reach our challenge goal of US $200 million, Lions' "Vision for All."

As Lions, we give the gift of sight and a world of opportunity by continuing SightFirst, our very best program. CSFII is an opportunity that starts with you and your club this month, so shoot for the stars. Remember, it is you and your fellow club members who will make the difference.

The stakes are very high.  The sight of 37 million people can be saved through your service as "Knights of the Blind." This year, you and your Lions club determine how we will fulfill our ultimate New Year's resolution, to save sight and achieve success for CSFII in 2007.
President Ross' Rally: "US $90 million by our 90th Anniversary"

Sincerely

Jimmy M. Ross, International President
