MESSAGE FROM YOUR DISTRICT GOVERNOR
Dear Lions
DISTRICT GOVERNOR
DECEMBER NEWS LETTER
As I reflect upon my visits to clubs this month, I am so impressed with the variety of fundraisers and service projects clubs are doing. I hear about the heart-warming services clubs are providing to their communities. Especially noteworthy for the holiday season are the dinners for the elderly, special events for residents of nursing homes, parties for children, and the distribution of food baskets. As I drive home, I reflect upon the giving of our Lions who continue to put into action our motto of “We Serve”.
At the November 26th Cabinet Advisory Meeting, the winner of the Peace Poster Contest will be selected and a $50 check will be awarded to the winner. On December 2nd, the winning district poster will judged at the State Council Meeting. All of the District 33S posters will be on display at our Mid-Winter Convention. The theme of this year’s contest, “Peace Around the World”, certainly evokes the hope we seek in our world today. The collection of items for the troops, which will also be done on the 26th of November, is one way we can show our appreciation for the sacrifice they are making on behalf of all of us.
A big thank you to Jesse Armel
who stepped in as Chair of the Youth Speech Contest when Mary Beth Moriarity’s
work schedule precluded her continuing in the position. Regional competitions are scheduled in
December. I urge you to attend, as you
will have an opportunity to hear the candidates address the topic –“How Can my
Generation Contribute to the World We Will Inherit?” The number of clubs participating this year is down, but the
enthusiasm from those who are participating is high. The following dates
are scheduled for the Region Competitions:
Region L - Leslie Dorr, Dec 6th, time to be
announced,
Region I – Jesse Armell, Dec. 11 at 7:00 p.m. at
the
Region O - Steve Raposa, December 5th at 7:00 p.m. at
the
Region N - John Padgett, December 8th, 11:00 a.m. in
North Bldg 105 at the Cape Cod Community College - several Cape Cod
clubs.
At the Mid Winter Convention you are invited to attend the District’s Youth Speech Contest that is scheduled for Saturday, January 12th, at approximately 1:30 pm.
The Christmas Party for Special Children will be held on December 8th at the Rayham King Philip Hall. If you are interested in assisting call Debbie Masciulli, 781-844-7851.
Many thanks to Lance Calise who volunteered to Co-Chair the Pennies for Sight Project with Joan Hart. Last year over $10,000 in pennies was donated for Mass Lions Eye Research and Lion Joan has high hopes of doubling that amount. She and Lance are available to visit clubs and discuss the project. Joan’s phone number is 508-378-0151 and Lance’s phone number is 508-758-4964.
This year’s mid-winter convention is going to be one of the best! The Convention Committee, comprised of PDG Kathy and PDG Jim Amaral and PDG Paul and Lion Schliecher have been very busy planning for the event. The Acushnet Lions Club has gone all out to make the weekend a memorable event for everyone. Come on Friday evening to celebrate an Italian Festival with accordion music provided by Lion Fred Kaczowka from the Hanover Club and then followed by an Italian Mystery. Make your reservations now!
My heartfelt thanks go the Zone and Region Chairpersons that have provided continued support for the clubs. As we approach the holiday season, I extend my best wishes for everyone to have a joyous holiday season and a happy, healthy new year.
Yours in Lionism,
Joe Rizzo
District Governor

When doing your Christmas cards
this year, take one card and send it to this address. If we pass

OR
I did this. It was very easy and quick. You can choose from pre-written messages or create one of your own.
If you go to this website, http://www.letssaythanks.com/ you can
pick out a thank you card and Xerox will print it and it will be sent to a
soldier that is currently serving in
How AMAZING it would be if we could get everyone we know to send one!!! This is a great site. Please send a card. It is FREE and it only takes a second. Wouldn’t it be wonderful if the soldiers received a bunch of these?
Whether you are for or against the war, our men and women over there need to know we are behind them!!!

HOLIDAY
FESTIVAL
EASTON LIONS
The Easton Lions invite everyone to this year’s
Holiday Festival at the Rockery on Dec 1 and 2.
The “Rockery” is our Center of Town designed by the famous “emerald
necklace” green space architect, F.L. Olmsted. The Rockery is fully lit, and
there will have a mini-light show this year.
Welcome the Holiday Season with plenty of fun,
rides for the kids, a crafter’s fair, lots of music and entertainment, Santa’s
Village, food, more fun, and friends. There’s a Holiday Party for the Kids
after the big parade on Sunday. Part of
the parade is a fun “Reindog Parade.”
Dress your best friend in the holiday spirit, parade with him/her, and
win a “best dressed” prize. Santa will be there, too. He arrives on Saturday, and you can see him
again n the parade on Sunday.
This year promises to be
our best ever, with new exhibits and an expanded song fest on Saturday night
when we light the Tree, and the whole center of town area.
We still have room for more crafters! Anyone
interested in showing their wares, please contact Jon Morgan at 508-238-1037.

BRIDGEWATER FESTIVAL OF LIGHTS
The Bridgewater Festival of Lights is a free Christmas light display with an animated walk through village. What started out as a small personal home Christmas display has now become a major attraction in the Bridgewater, South Shore area of Massachusetts. Although it is not the largest or brightest it has the distinction of being able to walk through it and you can get close to the displays. If that’s not enough, the Bridgewater and Hanson Lions Clubs come in on the weekends bringing Santa. Free Hot Coffee, Hot Chocolate, Popcorn and other goodies. When Santa is here you can get quality pictures for a small fee.
Go to http://bridgewaterfestivaloflights.com/ to check out events.
Procast Outdoor Fireplaces of E Bridgewater has donated the use of a large Precast Fireplace to help keep Santa warm!!! The wood (and we use a lot of it) was donated by Enos Landscape and Larry’s Lawncare of Bridgewater.
