Monthly Message from

District Governor Joe Rizzo

As District 33S approaches the three quarters benchmark, we reflect upon the goals that have been achieved (i.e., the reorganization of the district, the addition of new positions, Project Peru), those that are ongoing (i.e., the distribution of glasses, the Sri Lanka Project), and the remaining goals that will be met by the end of the year

, the increase in club membership, donations).  As District Governor, I look forward to continuing my visits to clubs and attending club activities during the remaining three months of my term.  During my club visits, I observe clubs seeking new opportunities to serve, increasing their membership, and discussing changes that can be pursued in anticipation of the New Year.  I encourage all Lions in our district to continue these positive efforts so that the clubs and district’s goals can be met with success.

The following initiatives and activities are of interest to all club members.

PU Form 101 - Club Officer Forms

These forms can be completed on-line by going on the LCI website; however, it does not mean that you are through with the process.  Copies of your PU Form need to be provided to the District Governor so that they may be used to develop our District Directory for next year.  The PU Form 101 is due to the District Governor by April 15th.

Monthly Membership Reporting

April is a month of change for membership reporting to LCI.  For those reporting monthly by mail, clubs need to file their reports by the 20th of the month so their report will be posted by the 30th.  For those reporting directly on-line, secretaries can report by the 30th of the month.  The reason for the variance in reporting is that International would like to have, as close as possible, the actual membership numbers in a timely manner and which are more relevant.

Cabinet Advisory Meeting – April 28th

This meeting once again is being planned to be interesting and informative.  Details will be released during the week of March 24th.

State Convention, May 9-11 Radisson Hotel, Nashua, New Hampshire

The featured guest will be Lions Clubs International 2nod Vice President, Eberhard J. Wirfs and his wife Lion Margrit. Applications have been sent to all Club Presidents.

State Convention Voting

On March 25th, notices will be sent to clubs regarding voting at the State Convention.  At the state convention this year, clubs will be voting for District and Vice District Governors as well as debating the adoption of a statewide CORI Policy.  District 33S adopted a policy on November 1st.  This policy, if adopted, will guarantee a uniform policy statewide.  Along with the proposed policy will be a question and answer sheet to inform clubs about the overall policy.  When adopted, we may have to modify our policy, but I do not believe there will be any changes that would significantly change what we currently have in place.  Your vote is needed to show other organizations in the state that the Lions act responsibly when it comes to protecting children under our care.

State Convention Delegates

A reminder that delegates selected to represent your club and who will be voting at the State Convention must have been be a Lion for one year and a day as of the Convention voting date which is May 11th.  Please return your delegate forms to CS Joyce Middleton as quickly as possible so that we can expeditiously process your delegate registration information.

PAWSOX Game for Campaign Sight First II, June 8th

Mark your calendar for this date as all districts in Massachusetts will be coming together to benefit Campaign Sight First II. For each $6 ticket sold, $3 will be donated to CSF II. CSFII PDG John Cobb will be notifying the clubs regarding the details of this event.

Tax Guidance for Clubs with Gross Income that is less than $25000

If your club’s annual gross receipts are $25000 or less, you must file the e-postcard also known as 990N.  This can easily be done by going to the IRS website.  As our Lions year is July thru June, you must file with IRS before the 15th of November.  The following information is required by your club to file on-line:

n      a legal name and mailing address and any other names used

n      a Web address if one is used

n      employer identification number (EIN)

n      organization’s annual tax period (July 1-June 30)

n      the name and address of a principal club officer

n      A statement confirming the organization’s annual gross receipts at normally $25000 or less.

If you club does not file, you risk losing you tax-exempt status!  Any Lions Club that fails to meet its annual reporting requirement for three consecutive years automatically loses its tax-exempt status under the new law.

Eye Mobile Scheduling

The Eye Mobile is back “On the Road Again” and available for conducting screenings. If your club is planning on using it during the spring and summer months, now is the time to schedule it.

October Growth Award

District 33S has received notice that 8 clubs received the Growth Award for clubs having a net gain for the month:  Acushnet –7, West Bridgewater –3, South Carver –3, Fall River Carousel – 2, Abington – 1, South Attleboro – 2, Mattapoisett –3, Rockland –1.  Congratulations to all clubs!!!!

Membership

Have you adopted the slogan “Just Ask One” yet?  Who knows, it may just work.  There is still time!!!

Yours in Lionism,

Joe Rizzo

District Governor

HELPING ALEX

Alex was born on July 8, 2005 to Bill and Beth Dalpe of Rehoboth. At four months of age Alex was diagnosed with Dravet Syndrome (severe Myoclonic Epilepsy in Infancy).

A form of Epilepsy so rare that fewer than 500 cases world wide are known to exist.  There is no known cure for Dravet Syndrome and it is nearly impossible to control with conventional seizure medications. For additional information please review website http://idea-league.org/dravet.html. Due to the tremendous effects of Alex’s condition the Rehoboth Lions are establishing a fund raising raffle in order to help alleviate the financial burden for Alex’s family. We are enlisting the help of any organization that would like to help us sell raffle tickets. All proceeds will help defray current and future expenses for Alex.

The following prizes will be raffled off on Rehoboth Public Access Channel 9 live on April 11, 2008 at 7p.m.
