Monthly Message from your District Governor

Hello again and greetings to all:

It's hard to believe, but here we are in April and the "home stretch" is upon us.  Thank you all for a great year so far.  Many events are coming up in the District so here we go.

First of all, let me thank the South Attleboro Lions Club for another great job on our Annual Bowling Tournament...it was a Hugh success and a "great time was had by all"  Don't forget the Cabinet Advisory Meeting on April 23 in Bourne.  As we wind down these meeting’s become more and more significant, so please, make an all out effort to attend.  Also, another reminder about the State Convention in Nashua, NH on April 27th - 29th.  This one is particularly important to attend because we have competition for Vice-District Governor and each and everyone should be there to decide the slate of officers for the next lion’s year.

Don't forget that soon to be Governor, Joe Rizzo, will be needing all our PU101s as soon as possible for his directory, so please, let's see what we can do for Joe.  It seems I'm always tipping my hat to all of you...I guess that's because you're all doing so much, but once again, thanks for a great job on operation 54/54 shoebox drive.  Once again, District 33S showed how it should be done.

As Don and I begin to put the closing chapter on our visitations, let me once again thank all of you for your hospitality over the year in making it such a great season.  We're looking forward to seeing the rest of you and sharing the word.

THANKS!

OPERATION SHOEBOX 54/54    REMINDER!

Operation Shoebox 54/54 is a continuation of our efforts to support the troops. We are asking each club to fill a shoebox with items for a soldier.  Within the shoebox, we are also asking each club to include a letter, or photo for the individual that receives the box.  Boxes for women soldiers should be labeled on the outside "Woman Soldier” One item women soldiers particularly like is hair conditioner.  My niece who recently returned from Iraq looked at hair conditioner as a major treat in addition, pictures done by children, letters etc should be given to us separately as they will be forwarded to the Commander for distribution to the troops.

We are hoping to send these boxes to the same unit we supported in December, the 1-101FA.  The unit has sent us a note thanking all the Lions in District 33-S for their and a power point presentation of pictures from the unit.  We are still trying to figure out how to get the pictures to the clubs.  As previously noted these soldiers are primarily from the local communities of District 33S.  To do this we will need your support in terms of money. Therefore, even if the club has not prepared a shoebox, a financial donation would be greatly appreciated.

Please bring your donations to the Cabinet Advisory Meeting on Monday April 23, 2007.  The meeting will be held at the Weary Travelers Club, Monument Beach.

District 33S                 OLD PHOTOS NEEDED-Request from District Y

PDG Jean W. Martin brought this to my attention.  Dust off the old photos:  In the January Lions magazine, on page 22, LCI is asking for clubs to send old photos for use at the International Convention in Chicago.

Pictures, slides, etc. prior to 1985 are wanted.  They do not want books or magazines, but original photos.  They say they will be returned to the sender.  The really, really old stuff would be really appreciated.  They are going to use it to celebrate the 90th anniversary of lions.  Send photos ASAP to:

Senior Editor Jay Copp, Lion Magazine, 300 W. 22nd St. Oak Brook, IL 60523-8842
Please include captions for all pictures if you have them, and who the photo should be returned to.  He can be reached at 630-571-5466 x 364 or  jay.copp@lionsclubs.org

Thank you,

Dennis Waller, District 33Y Webmaster

MASSACHUSETTS LIONS EYE RESEARCH FUND, INC.

Operation “PENNIES FOR SIGHT

To: Lions, Leo’s, and Lioness:

As a Director to MLERF I have been appointed chairperson for the Pennies for Sight canister Drive for MD 33 by President Margaret “Peg” Dunn this year.  My committee has started a new incentive project this year to raise money for all Lions to participate, become a “Partner in Pennies for Sight”.  For every Lion or Club that collects $100/00 + or more will have their club or the individual names put in for a drawing to win prizes such as:  week end get-a-ways, certificates to restaurants, stores, etc.  Every club will receive a banner patch in the shape of a canister and a rocker in the shape of a penny with the year on it for every year they participate in this program.  We would like each club to appoint a chairperson to be in charge of the canister program and turn in the names of individuals or clubs participating to your Pennies for Sight chairperson in your District.  This project will run until June 30th, 2007.  All winners will be announced at the annual banquet in August.

To quote one of my members who stated the following:

“DO NOT PUT BLINDNESS ON THE BA K BURNER”

I know that we all have pennies and canisters at home.  They may be only half full.  Please consider bringing them in and exchanging them for a new one.  We need those pennies now to make dollars to contribute to eye research. Won’t you please take a canister and join all the Lions in MD 33 to raise money to help prevent blindness.  Become a “Partner in Pennies for Sight”.  Why not put a canister in your community at restaurants, stores, banks, where you work or at your meeting place.

If you or your club already participate in this project I thank you very much and ask that you continue.  When mailing your checks in to MLERF for the Canister Project, please make sure you state that on your check.

The Pennies for Sight Canister Chairperson for District 33S is: PDG George and Lion Joan Hart.  Please contact your District Chairperson to come to your club to speak on this fund raising effort or to speak on MLERF.

Respectfully submitted,

Yours in Lionism

  LIONS NEW YORK TRIP

Bus trip to New York will be on Saturday, April 28th.  Cost is $35 per person and must be paid in full to guarantee reservation.  Bus will leave South Attleboro at 6 am and returns at approximately 10:30 pm.  Seats are on first come/first serve basis.  Due to other events taking place on this same date, such as the State Convention, among others, if all seats have not been reserved by March 31st the trip will be cancelled and all deposits paid will be returned.  We will be able to get our deposit back from Conway by canceling by that date.  This is necessary, as the price cannot be held at $35 per person unless all 49 seats on the bus are filled.  Please contact Pat Bonneau @ 508-761-7709 as soon as possible if interested.  Other than refunds being given for the trip cancellation, no individual cancellations will be refunded unless those seats can be resold.  Unfortunately, this is necessary due to several cancellations being made at the last minute for the past two trips leaving us short.  So....if you are interested reserve your seats, bring your family and friends, and let's have a fun trip to New York.
