This annual campaign, sponsored by the American Diabetes Association, is a month-long call-to-action to encourage people who have diabetes to take a proactive approach in their diabetes care, and help others learn how to avoid contracting the disease.
Approximately 17 million people in the United States have diabetes, and while an estimated 11.1 million have been diagnosed, 5.9 million people (or one-third) are unaware that they have the disease.
The month of November is dedicated to informing the public of measures that can help treat and prevent the serious complications of diabetes.
